Program details
The Florida Aquarium features more than 20,000 aquatic plants and marine animals from around the world. The Florida Aquarium opened in 1995 as a privately funded entity and became a public-private partnership in 1999. Exhibits are laid out to show the journey of a drop of water from one Florida's fresh-water springs to the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Among the many attractions are large simulated wetlands under a glass atrium; a simulated beach; a coral reef community and Ocean Commotion which replaced the Sea Hunt section.
Experience the 1,900,000 litres floor-to-ceiling Coral Reef tank and get the chance to meet a penguin up close. See fierce sharks, endangered sea turtles and moray eels. Take a journey down the Wetlands Trail past playful river otters, alligators, birds and invasive Burmese pythons. Interact with ray and starfish at the touch tanks. Explore A Shore, a two-acre outdoor water adventure zone. Let the kids cool off while parents relax under the shade of the Cantina bar and grill. A wonderful destination with plenty of fun activities!
Take a journey through the Wetlands Trail past the Suwannee River full of alligators using old wooden signs to guide you. Move on to the river streams where playful otters travel around and Great Blue Herons and Roseate Spoonbills push their way through the vegetation. Carry on the journey surrounded by native fish, owls, other flying birds and Burmese pythons.
