In the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, your naturalist guide will lead you out on a series of short hikes to experience a selection of the more than 90 waterfalls that exist here. After a delicious lunch in Hood River, continue to high desert country and watch for birds and wildlife roaming the basalt cliffs before heading to the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center for some fascinating history and culture.
The mighty Columbia River cuts a deep swathe through the Cascade Mountains. In the Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area, your guide will lead you on hikes to experience a selection of waterfalls, including the unbeatably beautiful 190 metre (620ft) high Multnomah Falls. Enjoy morning tea as you take in the waterfalls and wildflowers that adorn this natural wonder.
Discover the picturesque town of Hood River, where near constant winds create a paradise for windsurfers and kite boarders and breathtaking natural beauty draws many sightseers each year. After lunch in Hood River, you are taken across the Cascade Divide, where the landscape changes suddenly and dramatically to become high desert. Take out the binoculars and spot birds and wildlife such as marmots, coyotes, elk, deer and fox. In the town of Dalles, visit the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center and learn the fascinating history of the pioneers as they made their way along the Oregon Trail and learn of the native peoples of the Columbia River and of the treacherous US Army expedition from St Louis to the Pacific led by Lewis and Clark in 1805 and 1806.
