Take a journey back in time and explore Nashville’s rich history as you visit two of the most extraordinary and historic homes in the US. The visit will begin with a tour of the magnificently preserved The Hermitage, built as the home of Andrew Jackson, a war hero who became the seventh President of the United States. Then in the afternoon, visit the Belle Meade mansion and plantation, a fine example of pre-Civil War Southern architecture.



The Hermitage, the former home of President Andrew Jackson, was built in the Greek revival style to Jackson’s orders in the 1830s. The building is a living museum; admire the original furnishings, the family's personal possessions and much of the furniture that they personally purchased. You are also welcome to explore the 1,120 acres of rolling parkland surrounding the property. Stroll around the formal gardens; pay a poignant visit to the slave quarters, have a look the original 1804 cabin of the estate and pay your respects at the site where the President and his wife were laid to rest.



In the afternoon, head for the Belle Mead Plantation. This magnificent antebellum estate is known as the ‘Queen of the Tennessee Plantations’. In the 19th century, the plantation covered 5,200 acres and was renowned throughout the world as a thoroughbred stud farm and nursery. The present 30-acre site features a winery, visitor's centre, original outbuildings including the Harding cabin, dairy, carriage house, stable, mausoleum and a reconstructed slave quarters.
