Program details
Visit the former Portuguese colony of Macau and discover where East meets West with a Latin flavour. Come along and see how the charm of the Chinese and Portuguese heritages merge in arrays of updated architecture.
The tour proper starts with a quick ride to the Macau Ferry Terminal, where you hop onto the ferry to Macau. Once there, the sightseeing tour begins. See a variety of World Heritages, including Na Tcha Temple, sections of the Old City Walls, Mount Fortress and the stunning ruins of St Paul’s Roman Catholic Church. This church, built in 1602, was burnt down in 1835, but some sort of miracle preserved its facade’s fine carvings and statues.
Na Tcha Temple was built in the Chinese traditional style for worshipping a mythical character, Na Tcha, and has become a Unesco World Heritage Site in 2005, the same year that the remnants of the Old City Wall also became a World Heritage Site; the last standing segments were erected in 1569 and they show an early Portuguese tradition of building defensive walls around port settlements.
This tour also takes you to the Museum of Macau, which exhibits the history of this city, its people and makes special emphasis on its multicultural nature. Alongside your charismatic guide who will give you a deeper insight into the histories of the sites your pass, by the end of the day you will be a true expert on Macau history.
