Program details
Unleash your inner artist with a visit to the small town of Avanos, the craft centre of Cappadocia. Take in the mystique of your surroundings, and dirty your hands with a unique tour that offers you a firsthand experience at a traditional handicraft famed in the region.
Set off for Avanos and discover a world of intricately designed, bold colored pottery. Between 40 and 50 workshops are in operation, varying from small family-run, single room operations to massive ceramic factories. Many of the workshops operate much as they did over a century ago, using the local caves as the base of their workshops. Make your way to one of these cave-based workshops, and marvel at the history of the handicraft. Here you'll watch a short demonstration by one of the potters, then receive a lesson from the master on how to throw your own piece. Afterwards, you'll get in on the action and create your very own one-of-a-kind souvenir. Once you're satisfied with your handiwork, take the opportunity to explore the onsite gallery and talk to the local craftspeople, snap a few photos, shop the professionally crafted wares, and enjoy a glass of local wine or tea as you take it all in.
Cappadocia is truly a region with a remarkable mix of unmatched stunning scenery and ancient traditions and handicrafts that still thrive in near original form. This tour in Avanos, not to be missed by the art and craft lovers, gives you a taste of each.
