Program details

Raise a toast to the ancient Phoenicians when at the Señorio de Barahonda winery and thank them for bringing wine production to the area around Yecla. To this day, the grape variety introduced by them some 2,500 years ago forms the bedrock of the region’s wines. This visit to the family-owned Señorio de Barahonda winery includes a guided tour of the vineyards, the state-of-the-art visitor centre and a tasting of the structured, expressive wines of intense colour and flavour.

Enjoy a stroll through the complex, admiring the serene beauty of the vineyards. Yecla wines are made from the grape variety known locally as Monastrell (though it is called Mourvèdre in France and Mataró in other parts of Spain as well as the New World). The result is wines with a robust character and complexity. See the tanks in the cellar while learning about aspects of winemaking such as the separation of grapes and the types of fermentation. See also the sections of the cellar dedicated to barrel maturation, fermentation, bottling and packing while learning all about the history of the Señorio de Barahonda winery, which was founded in 1925.

Continue through to the wine tasting room, where you will be able to observe, smell and taste a white, a rosé and two reds. Learn about pairing wine with food, the types of wine and the different measures of quality. The winery also has a renowned restaurant on site, where you have the option of savouring dishes served with the perfectly matched wine.
