Program details
The ultimate way to experience the wonderful world of wildlife that is La Jolla Cove is by exploring above and below the surface. Expert guides will lead you by kayak through the Ecological Reserve in search of sea lions, dolphins and harbour seals. Once near the sea caves, hop into the ocean for a chance to swim along harmless leopard sharks, bat rays, garibaldi fish, rock lobster, green sea turtles, diving pelicans, sea stars, and even sea lions and harbour seals.
Tours include kayaks (single or tandem), paddle, life jacket, snorkel set, anchor, and wetsuit (if desired). Waterproof cameras are available for sale. Swimsuits to wear under a wetsuit are recommended. Contact lenses are suggested as eye glasses will not fit under snorkel mask. Small lockers are available.
Participants must be 10 years or older and must be able to swim. No experience necessary, but tour requires a moderate level of physical activity, and length of swim will be determined by participant's ability. Guides will provide a brief kayak and snorkel instruction before tour. For safety reasons, going into the caves is not guaranteed and will happen weather permitting. Guides are expert naturalists with backgrounds in marine biology, ecology, environmental science photography, and outdoor recreation, and hold advanced certifications in kayak and snorkel instruction, and CPR/First Aid.
