Program details
The rolling hills, scenic bays and top architectural landmarks of Wellington take centre stage during this guided tour. Visit must-see attractions, including the parliament buildings and the former cathedral, the southern hemisphere's finest example of Gothic revival architecture.
See the parliament buildings and the adjacent Beehive, a landmark modern building that gets its name from its shape. Take a trip down memory lane with a nostalgic visit to a leafy part of the district of Thorndon and see Old Saint Paul's Cathedral, a picture-postcard wooden temple with a colourful display of military banners inside.
Few cities in the world can boast a beautiful a natural setting as Wellington, located at the southern tip of North Island around a stunning bay that the Maori call ‘the great harbour of Tara’. Head to the lovely landscaped Lady Norwood Rose Garden and enjoy the breathtaking views of the city from the summit of Mount Victoria, which was used as a location in The Lord of the Rings movies.
Return to downtown with a drive along the rugged bays of the harbour. A ride on the emblematic cable car, which goes from the main shopping street to the picturesque suburb of Kelburn, is an optional extra but well worthwhile. The afternoon excursion includes a visit to Weta Cave, where the props for many famous films such as the three Lord of the Rings movies were designed and produced. This brief but informative tour is the perfect introduction to Wellington.
Meeting/pick-up point: Wellington accommodation (to be advised at time of booking).
Start/opening time: 10am and 2pm.
