Visit the renowned Napier Museum, which is located in an architecturally significant building that combines the Mughal, Kerala, Chinese and Italianate styles. One of the building’s stand-out features is its natural air-conditioning system. The museum offer glimpses of Kerala’s rich cultural heritage and boasts an excellent collection of bronze historic ornaments, ivory carvings and chariots as well as life-size figurines of traditional Kathakali dancers in full costume.
Continue to the Sri Chitra Art Gallery, where you can admire a collection of paintings from the Rajput, Mughal and Tanjore schools of art. The gallery also houses rare paintings by Raja Ravi Varma, Svetoslav Roerich and his father, Nicholas. The collection of oriental paintings from China, Japan, Tibet and Bali provides a visual reminder of just where you are.
Cap of your tour with a visit to Padmanabha Swamy Temple, a visually stunning blend of Kerala and Dravidian style of architecture. The temple is famed for its mural paintings and the intricate stone carvings of its roof. It is one of just 108 sacred Vishnu temples in India and the presiding deity is Lord Vishnu, reclining on Anantha, the Serpent. Only Hindus are allowed inside the temple and in prescribed dress code.
