Program details
Take in a world of ancient splendor as you explore the Dead sea and the desert castles of Jordan. An enriching experience unlike any other, this three hour tour will transport you to a time long ago and where the folklores of the 1001 Arabian nights will come alive.
You will start by making your way to the lowest point on earth, the Dead Sea. With waters that are eight times saltier than the ocean and said to hold healing powers, take this opportunity to float and relax in the serenity of your surroundings. Next continue on to tour the country's desert castles. Gaze admiringly at the beauty of these fine examples of early Islamic art and architecture. With their magnificent mosaics, frescoes, and stone and stucco carvings and illustrations, dating to the 8th century, be transported to a fascinating era of Jordan's rich history. Called castles because of their imposing nature, these desert complexes primarily served as caravan stations, centres of trade and agriculture, resort pavilions, and outposts that helped distant rulers forge ties with the local Bedouins. These fascinating and well-preserved compounds lie just to the east and south of Amman; easily accessible for your enjoyment. Take in Quseir Amra, one of the best preserved of them all, boasting intricately wonderful examples of the art of the period, with walls and ceilings covered with lively frescoes and two of the rooms paved with colorful mosaics.
Sure to impress you and leave you in awe, this tour of Jordan's Dead Sea and desert castles will enliven all your senses and allow you to explore a captivating time period of the history of the region.
