Program details
Sail to tropical and enchanting Green Island aboard a catamaran and discover one of the Great Barrier Reef’s most beautiful locations. Spend two hours viewing the coral reef and fish life, relaxing on the white sandy beach and exploring the walking tracks that lead through the National Park. A range of optional extras are available such as scuba diving, helmet diving, boat snorkel tours, or the hire of canoes and beach lounge chairs.
Green Island is a cay (a sandy island on a coral reef) about 27 kilometres from Cairns. The island is bordered by a coral reef and protected within the Green Island National Park. A variety of vegetation covers the island and the only source of water is the rain as well as a small freshwater lens under the island. Aboriginal people call the island Dabuukji (the place of the hole in the nose) and according to them, in the past, the island's size was approximately four times bigger.
This tour has options that include two and a half hours at Green Island, a snorkelling demonstration, a choice of glass-bottom boat tour or the use of snorkelling gear (deposit required) and self-guided island walks.
Meeting/pick-up point: northern beaches accommodation. Departure Point: Reef Fleet Terminal, Cairns.
Duration: four hours.
Start/opening time: Midday.
