Program details
Spend a day sampling the delights of old and new Shanghai with this full day tour of the city. China’s largest city is a dazzling mix of glittering skyscrapers, colonial buildings, art, culture and movie-like jazz clubs. The fun begins at the M50, a cutting-edge art district on Moganshan Lu. Formerly an industrial park, it is at the centre of Shanghai’s contemporary art community, displaying a wide range of works created by more than 100 artists from around the world.
From the taste of ‘new’ to a twist of ‘old’, you will then visit the French Concession. Established in 1849, this attractive, tree-lined neighbourhood is brimming with old-fashioned charm. It captures the real essence of old Shanghai and is known to many as the ‘Paris of the East’.
Continue to the Yu Garden, also known as the Garden of Contentment, which was built in the Ming Dynasty. This classical Chinese garden features dragon-lined walls separating various garden areas dotted with pavilions. You can then saunter down onto The Bund, Shanghai’s emblematic waterfront area lined with famous colonial buildings overlooking the Huangpu River. Enjoy a melodic sample of how Shanghai was influenced by the West at the renowned Blue Jazz Bar, whose music is as popular today as it was in its heyday. The final stop is the Shecy Pearl City, one of the world’s leading suppliers of pearl jewellery. The day also includes a lunch stop at an authentic Dim Sum restaurant, where you can savour delicious local delicacies.
