Program details
The only way is up in La Palma a small island with a very big heart. This fascinating full-day tour will take you to the very core of the isle, its emblematic volcanic caldera, almost 2,500 metres above sea level. The climb is breathtaking, with the ocean just a few kilometres away as the crow flies.
We’ll visit the Caldera visitor centre before entering the absolute highlight of La Palma: the, the Caldera de Taburiente National Park. You’ll even be able to go for a nice little stroll inside the crater, one of the biggest in the world.
On the way down to the coast, we’ll pass El Paso, the Aridane Valley, and the colourful fishing village of Tazacorte. From there we’ll head upwards again towards the Barranco de Angustias before reaching El Time, where there will be a pause of about 30 minutes to take in the fantastic views over the west of the island.
Next on the radar is the north-west corner, Garafia. We’ll have lunch in the region’s capital, the hilly hamlet of Santo Domingo. Lunch is not included so you can bring your own picnic or eat at one of the town’s two restaurants.
With our energies replenished, we can begin the ultimate challenge of the day, the ascent of the island’s highest mountain: the 2,400-metre high Roque de los Muchachos. From the summit you will enjoy fantastic views over verdant forests and the rest of the island.
The tour will end on the east of the island, returning to the coast along a scenic route of lush vegetation and dramatic views.
