Program details
The Santa Barbara Castle is located on the top of Benacantil Mountain, 166 meters above sea level; it gives to the city a great strategic value. From there, you can see almost the entire bay of Alicante.
On its slopes have been found archaeological remains of the Bronze Age, Iberian and Roman, but the origin of the fortress is in the late ninth century with the Muslim rule.
The rooms which can be seen today were built during the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, when the medieval castle undergoes changes to adapt itself to new techniques of war, the long-range artillery, etc…
Guided tour to Santa Barbara castle: There is an interesting private tour of the Castle, in which you will enter places closed to the public. As far as the cistern or the dungeons. You will also learn about the history and evolution of the strength over the years. A permanent calendar of guided tours has been established throughout the year, so that any visitor to the Castle can purchase a pass and enjoy guided the fort as long as there are at least 4 people for the pass.
Afterwards, a table in the best area of the terrace of the Castle restaurant will be waiting for you. There you can have lunch, one of the traditional dishes of our province: Paella paired with an authentic local wine (MO from Sierra Salinas Winery). Live a unique experience.
