Program details

Discover Singapore’s more peculiar side with this tour of the wet market and the lively Chinatown. Many envision Singapore as a neat and orderly city, chock-a-block with skyscrapers, a prime example of metropolitan life. Yet, like every city, it has its hidden corners of traditional life. Join us and discover the places that haven’t been affected by the relentless pass of time.

As you begin the tour, your enthusiastic guide will lead you to the wet market. If you’re wondering about why it is called like that, the moment you step into it you will appreciate the why. Amidst the flurry of sounds and colourful merchandise, stall owners use water all over the market for a variety of purposes: to clean the fruits and veggies, to keep fish and shellfish alive and creeping… Enjoy the hustle and bustle of locals hunting for the better prices; even try out your haggling skills yourself. Many stalls might sell products unfamiliar to you yet craved by the locals, such as century egg, black chicken and a wide array of spices.

Later on, stroll over to the Chinatown Complex, Singapore’s single largest food centre. What better place can there be for enjoying a heart-warming and belly-filling breakfast? Feast upon some fine local cuisine before moving on to a traditional and heritage shop. You’ll be spoiled for choice among the many herbs, tonics and tea timepastries on offer. The icing on the cake is provided by a sampling of delicious local desserts. The tour ends here and there is no drop off back to the hotel.
