Program details
Enigmatic Angkor Wat and surrounding temples, hidden treasures located in the midst of the jungle waiting to be explored. Join us to discover the best of the temples with lunch included.
We start our journey at the imposing South Gate of Angkor Thom. Constructed during the Jayavarman VII dynasty in the 12th century this intricate archway with 23 metre towers is famous for its depiction of the Churning of the Sea of Milk. Spanning the moat are the devas and asuras in an never ending tug of war while huge stone faces look down on you as cross into the temple city beyond.
Next we take in the iconic faced temple of Bayon. More than 200 gigantic smiling faces thought to represent the image of King Jayavarman VII himself stare at you from every angle of the 54 towers. We move on to the impressive 11th century pyramidal shaped Baphuon temple featuring a huge reclining Buddha.
Next stop is the Terrace of the Leper Kings, where some exceptionally well conserved early carvings can be seen and the Terrace of Elephants supported by sculpted stone elephants that served as a giant viewing platform for royal ceremonies. After lunch, you will visit the jewel of the crown: Angkor Wat, the largest religious monument in the world. Its famous silhouette and stunning bas relief friezes never fail to impress. The sheer size and tranquillity of the monument is truly awe inspiring. We end the tour with a trip up to Phnom Bakheng to admire the magnificent sunset views.
