Program details
Discover the ‘other’ Cambodia with this exciting tour of the pastoral countryside south Phnom Penh, taking in much of Takeo province and Lake Tonle Bati, which is famed for the bamboo huts built over the water. Among the activities enjoyed during this full day trip a speedboat adventure on a canal, visits to temple ruins and a cruise.
Drive towards the provincial capital of Takeo, which is a renowned silk weaving centre. The town is surrounded by manmade waterways, which for centuries have it to other villages and Vietnam. Board a speedboat and whizz along canal No.15 to Angkor Borei, a beautiful lakeside town. Take in the beautiful scenery and the way of life of the fishing communities during the 45 minute trip.
Near Angkor Borei, wander the ruins of the sixth century Phnom Da temple, which is located on a small hill offering excellent views and total tranquillity. Return to Takeo for a brief tour before feasting on a picnic lunch.
The afternoon commences with a visit to Lake Tonle Bati and its famous bamboo huts. Explore the nearby temples of Ta Prum and Yeay Peau, which both date back to the 12th century and were built during the Angkorian era when Hinduism was the predominant religion in this area. Stroll around Ta Prum and admire the beautiful carvings in the stone depicting the story of Brahmanism before admiring the tower structure of Yeay Peau.
