Program details
Discover Samaipata and relax at the scenery of the mountain heights while you listen to the Quechua language and feel the pleasant cool of this climate. Before arriving at the Samaipata town you will stop to visit the Cuevas (caverns), where you will be able to have a pleasant walk by streams and enjoy the crystalline waterfalls. You will not resist the temptation to swim in the natural pools. Then we will move on to Fort Samaipata, about six kilometres from the town, on the eastern foothills of the Bolivian Andes. This is the most important archaeological site in the eastern part of Bolivia and has is a Unesco World Heritage Site.
In spite of its name this is actually a religious site built by the Chané people. It sits together with ruins of a town built by the Inca during their expansion to the southeast. In time, the Guarani warriors invaded the plains and destroyed Samaipata dominating the region until the Spanish colonial period. Remains of Arab Andalusian architecture left by the Spaniards can also be found by the temple. This confluence of cultures makes this archaeological site unique.
A panoramic city tour awaits you in the afternoon on the way back to the hotels in Santa Cruz.
