Program details
Visit Valparaiso and Viña del Mar from Santiago and discover cities on the shores of the ocean so beautiful that they are respectively known as the Jewel of the Pacific and Garden City. Along the way, you will have the opportunity to admire the stunning landscapes of the Curacavi, Casablanca and Maipo valleys.
The journey from Santiago to the coast is a picturesque one as the scenery gently transitions from the Andean foothills to verdant valleys full of vineyards. On the road, stop at a typical hostelry to taste the typical Chilean drink called chicha, a fermented fruit drink that’s extremely popular in rural areas.
Arrive at Valparaiso and explore the colourful homes on the hillsides overlooking the port, which are such an intrinsic part of the cityscape that they were declared a Unesco World Heritage Site. Other sights during the tour of the city include Plaza Victoria, Plaza Sotomayor, the Naval Heroes Monument and the May 21st Lookout. Other options include a bay tour and a visit to the multicoloured and eclectically decorated La Sebastina, the art deco home of late Nobel Prize-winning poet Pablo Neruda's (entrance fees not included).
Viña del Mar is less than 10km away and while the name translates as Vineyard of the Sea, it is known as Garden City due to its abundant vegetation. See the Casino and Reñaca beach, where you'll have free time for lunch (not included) and to explore the area at your own pace. On the return leg, there’s a stop at Quinta Vergara, the location of a popular International Song Festival.
