Program details
Tour the rolling green hills of Tuscany and Umbria, and discover three towns that even today are beautifully-preserved gems: Assisi, Cortona and Perugia.
Visit the ancient and delightful hilltop town of Cortona, bursting with architectural treasures and offering spectacular views over the surrounding landscape. Discover for yourself why Cortona provided the perfect backdrop for filming the 2003 movie Under the Tuscan Sun. Explore fabulous Assisi, birthplace of St Francis, which overlooks a picturesque valley surrounded by gentle slopes and vineyards.
Following in the St’s footsteps, you will be guided along winding streets and alleyways to the historical and artistic treasures of this medieval town. In the superb Basilica of St Francis of Assisi, gazing at Giotto’s frescoes of the St’s life, you will learn the history of this important spiritual centre. Enjoy free time to stroll around and relax in the enchanting atmosphere of this Umbrian jewel.
Finally, step back in time with a visit to the ancient city of Perugia, capital of Umbria and steeped in a history that goes all the way back to Etruscan times. Among other monuments not to be missed is the Etruscan Arch, also known as Porta Augusta, an ancient gateway into the city and dating back well over two thousand years.
