The Ypres Salient is most typically associated with commonwealth forces, like Australia or New Zealand, who fought continuously from October 1914 until the final curtain fell over the war. The Salient claimed a frightful 185,000 commonwealth lives.
Explore the major sites, from cemeteries to memories, that dot the Ypres Salient. See John McRae’s Essex farm site; the German cemetery, known as the Langemark; the Canadian memorial Vancouver Corner; Tyne Cot cemetery; and even the moving 5th Australian Division Memorial, Polygon Wood.
Meander along the moonscape of the Hill 60 battlefield, which is covered with dozens of memorial to British, Australian and Canadian regiments alike. This tour also gives you the opportunity to spend some time in Ypres itself, where you can visit St George’s Chapel and the Menin Gate.
