Jump back in time to the days when the magnificent Knights Templar fought epic battles across Europe on this illuminating tour of Tomar and its surrounding area. The Knights Templar of Portugal were once residents in the town of Tomar and it would go on to become one of the most important Templar towns in the medieval world. Tour its enchanting Old Town and learn about its fascinating history before heading to the stunning Almourol Castle and picturesque village of Constancia to finish the tour.



The historic centre of the ancient town is overflowing with outstanding examples of 15th century religious shrines, such as St John the Baptist’s church or the Jewish synagogue, now a museum dedicated to the importance of the Jewish contribution during the Age of Discovery. Tomar was the very last site to be constructed for the Templars and the settlement itself grewwithin the walls surrounding the spectacular Convent of Christ. Learn about this fascinating period of history before pausing for an ice cream or a cool drink at one of the many outdoor cafes lining the bustling Republic Square.



Then head to the historic, riverside town of Constancia, which is dominated by the Templar Castle of Almourol. Located majestically on the banks of the river Tagus, Almourol is a spectacular example of the many medieval forts that were erected by Templar forces throughout Portugal and Europe and the perfect way to end this memorable tour.
