Tuck into minty tzatziki and the plumpest olives in Athens to begin. Then choose from pork rolls in their crackling coats, or another signature Greek dish: meltingly tender roast lamb. There’s traditional spinach pie and cheese croquettes, and the delicious fried courgette balls they call kolokithokeftedes – a mouthful in more ways than one. As the sun sinks behind the Acropolis and the waiters start lighting the candles, it’s time for dessert. There’s creamy semolina or another chef’s speciality, yoghurt served with zesty candied bergamot.
