Explore the lavish legacy of the Vanderbilts further with a visit to William K. Vanderbilt’s summer home, The Marble House – 500,000 cubic feet of marble, built in 1892 and completely groundbreaking in opulence and style at the time it was built. Even 100 years ago, the mansion still cost $11 million, with grounds including a Chinese teahouse modelled on 12th century temples, French neoclassical porticoes and Beaux Arts detailing.
