Program details

We invite to experience more of the ancient Coliseum than has ever been possible as we take you on an exclusive tour of the areas not usually open for public viewing. This popular tour allows special access for small groups to visit the underground world below the Arena.

As you explore the tunnels, your guide’s explanations will paint a picture of the glory days of the Gladiators when they faced up to the mighty lions and tigers that were kept caged below until being hauled up into the arena to thrill the audiences; and as we step out for an exclusive visit to the actual arena floor, you can almost imagine the roar of the crowd as they witnessed the battle between man and beast. The excitement continues as we visit a further restricted area, the third tier. Closed until recently, this floor of the Coliseum offers a heart-stopping view down to the arena floor, as well as spectacular vistas across Rome through its famous arches.

As we leave the Coliseum, we walk a short distance to enjoy the previous views of the third tier close up as we walk along the Via Sacra, the triumphant route taken by Emperors to the Forum. Your guide will point out the famous landmarks along the way including the temple which houses the altar to Julius Cesar and the House of the Vestal Virgins. This exciting opportunity to visit limited access parts of the Coliseum and discover ancient Rome is not one to miss!
